CNIB (The Canadian National Institute for the Blind)
Brant United Way helps individuals be independent.
Imagine that you are born with limited vision. As you grow up you must continue to learn new ways to live independently. This is Jason's* life story. From the beginning, Brant United Way not only helped him maintain his independence and increase his confidence but also helped educate and support his parents on how to raise a child who is blind.
From a young age, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) has been a large part of Jason's life. From teaching him how to maximize his education to being helpful around the house, the CNIB has helped Jason be the man he is today.
CINB was there for Jason in many capacities. Everything that he learned through the support of the CNIB allowed him to feel included and independent. Whether it was teaching Jason how to cook for himself or to give him a deck of Braille playing cards to socialize with his peers, Jason could live independently.
As an adult, one of the happiest days of Jason's life was learning how to take the bus from his house to his future job. Before getting his job, where he continues to be employed today, Jason learned how to take public transportation to get him there and get him home. This was a crucial step for Jason and ultimately allowed him to make a livelihood for himself and his family.
Through programming at the CNIB, Jason was able to live and continues to lead a healthy and independent lifestyle. Brant United Way works hard every day to help individuals in our community find opportunity to succeed both personally and professionally.
We're in this together.
